We are pleased to announce that Shmuel Oren, the Earl J. Isaac Professor in the Science and Analysis of Decision Making, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) for his contributions 'to the integration of decisions and cooperative market mechanisms for adaptive multisource electrical power systems.' Shmuel was elected as one of 80 new members and 22 foreign members announced today.

IEOR is having a design contest to help IEOR create t-shirts for CalDay 2016, UC Berkeley's annual open house. Participants will create a design for the front and back of the shirt. T-shirt designs may focus on any aspect of IEOR (What is it, who is involved, how is it used, how it can change the world, etc.)

All IEOR/ORMS undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate.

Prof. Ikhlaq Sidhu of IEOR and Chief Scientist/Founding Director of the Sutardja Center has been invited to serve on International Advisory Board (IAB) of the Clover Engineering 2030 Project to develop the New Engineering Economy of Chile. The board consists of faculty, deans, and innovation leaders at MIT, Texas A&M, Columbia, top global universities, entrepreneurs, and political leaders. The 2016 Advisory Board meeting kicks of discussion starting on January 3 in Santiago, Chile.

Prynt, a San Francisco-based startup founded by two graduates of a Berkeley Engineering entrepreneurship program, is bringing instant print photography to smartphones. The grads designed a smartphone case equipped with a built-in mini-printer, for printing digital photos on the go.

The founders, Clément Perrot and David Zhang, were schoolmates at École Polytechnique, France’s premier science and engineering university, but it wasn’t until they met again at Berkeley in 2013 that they really got to know each other.

The DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING & OPERATIONS RESEARCH at University of California, Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in the department should an opening arise.
