OVERVIEW:

Senior PLC (London: SNR) is a $1.4B corporation that is comprised of two major divisions, Senior Flexonics and Senior Aerospace. Senior Aerospace SSP is an autonomously run $130M business with almost 600 team members and is the largest of eight business units comprising the $400M Fluid Systems division of Senior Aerospace. This major business unit is headquartered in Burbank, CA and is a recognized leader in the design and manufacture of high temperature, high pressure duct systems, exhaust and fuel systems fabricated primarily using exotic materials for aircraft turbine engines, airframes, space, and ground based applications. 60% of the products are proprietary to SSP, and business breakdown being 70% long-term legacy programs and 30% new programs. Titanium, Inconel, and other lightweight high temperature materials are manufactured into complex components requiring forming, tube bending, heat treatment, welding, machining, assembly and all necessary NDT processes. The business is vertically integrated with a fabrication shop that supplies 90% of materials needed to the assembly production line and both groups are interdependent on the other for planning and scheduling purposes. The company’s manufacturing capabilities include CNC tube bending, drop forming, hydro forming, spin forming, welding, heat treating, and insulation. The manufacturing content is high mix, low volume with an average bill of materials (BoM) between 2-9 components per product. The company produces approximately 3,000 products per month. Major customers include US Government (DLA), Bombardier, Gulfstream, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Airbus, Pratt & Whitney, Orbital Space Systems, and UTC Aerospace Systems.

Recently, the company has been increasing its process sophistication, transitioning from build-to-print to design-to-spec and transitioning from batch manufacturing to flow line production.  SSP holds a dominant position in the design of ducting systems. Drawing on years of design experience, SSP-developed analysis, the latest in computer-aided design programs, and finite-element analysis, SSP’s engineering team leads the way with innovative solutions for aerospace system designs. Analytical capability includes: load and motion, cycle life, pressure and thermal performance, flow and pressure drop, and heat transfer. Paramount to maintaining its competitive edge, SSP engineering directs design-to-cost initiatives, develops efficient manufacturing processes, and advances ducting system technologies in support of evolving airframe and engine performance criteria.

Complex systems that Senior Aerospace SSP has excelled in designing and manufacturing are:

§ APU Ducting System

§ ECS Ducting System

§ Engine Build-up Ducting System

§ Fuel and Oxidizer Ducting System

§ Bleed Air System

§ Wing Anti-Ice System

§ Nacelle Anti-Ice System
