The City of Brevard, North Carolina, located about 30 miles south of Asheville and 45 minutes north of Greenville, SC, is the county seat of Transylvania County and a gateway to Pisgah National Forest. With a year-round population of about 7,800, there is a seasonal uptick to 40,000 during the summer.

The City Manager is appointed by the Mayor and Council and serves as the city’s Chief Administrative Officer. The City Manager oversees a total operating budget of approximately $35 million and all full-service operations including Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Police, Fire, Public Works (Streets, Sanitation and Recycling; Parks and Trails; Water Distribution; and Sewer Collections), Planning, Water Treatment Plant, and Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The starting salary range for this position is anticipated to be $134,000 to $164,000. The City Manager is provided a car allowance and cell phone stipend. Residency within Transylvania County is required. Relocation expenses are negotiable.

The position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, planning, finance, or a related field and progressively responsible senior level administrative management experience in a comparable organization. Experience in municipal utilities is a plus. Candidates may distinguish themselves with a Master’s Degree and/or Certification as an International City/County Management Association Credentialed Manager.
