About
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
As the preeminent public higher education institution in a diverse state, we have an important responsibility to ensure access, diversity, equity, and inclusion in our programs. Our vision is to grow our programs while ensuring that we provide opportunities to students from all sections of the society and train highly skilled professionals to contribute to a diverse workforce.
Consistent with the College of Engineering’s DEI Strategic Plan, we have the following four DEI focus areas:
- Demographics: The demographics of our domestic undergraduate students, graduate students, staff, and faculty should more closely reflect that of the State of California and the United States.
- Educational equity: Elimination of disparities among sub-groups in the achievement and the shared responsibilities of our students, staff and faculty.
- Climate: Every member of our community needs to feel included, valued, heard, and a sense of belonging.
- Preparing inclusive leaders: Our graduates become inclusive leaders with multicultural awareness in academia, public service, and professional practice.
