The University of Michigan Summer Enrichment Program in Health Management and Policy (UMSEP) is an 8-week summer internship program for undergraduate students committed to eliminating racial, ethnic and socioeconomic health disparities. UMSEP has been placing students in health care organizations in Southeast Michigan since 1986.

The UMSEP mission is to identify and train future leaders of health care organizations who will strive to eliminate health inequalities. Specific goals include:

  • To help undergraduate students identify health management and policy as an excellent field through which they can have an impact on health disparities.
  • To expose students to populations that experience health disparities and to the responsibilities and activities of health executives who work in organizations that serve low-income populations of color.
  • To provide students with opportunities to learn more about health disparities, health care organizations, the health care system, and public health through formal and informal meetings and visits with health administrators, UM SPH alumni, UM faculty, and other program preceptors.

All participants in the UM SEP receive the following benefits:

  • $3000 Stipend
  • GRE Prep Course
  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Food Allowance
