We are seeking high caliber Quantitative Research Interns for our Houston office to contribute to the day-to-day activities of our research teams.
What you’ll do:
Dive into challenging, results-oriented projects. Work in close collaboration with our researchers to solve problems in areas including mathematical modeling, machine learning, algorithmic trading, and computational development. Enjoy an informal and intellectually stimulating environment. Successful internship may lead to full-time employment upon graduation.
Based on your interests and skills, you’ll be matched with projects within our Core Research and Strategy Execution teams. Immersing yourself into big data sets for model estimation and event studies is only half the battle. Not only do you have to understand the structure of the data, but also how to translate your models into optimal decision making. You will work alongside Quantlab’s researchers to tackle these challenges, and optimize existing and develop new algorithmic trading strategies.
What you’ll have:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Physics, Pure or Applied Math, Statistics, Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or Industrial Engineering/Operations Research
- Computational research and/or development experience
- Ability to adapt to change quickly and to make the most of a collaborative environment
- Applied experience in C++/Python (preferred) and other languages (R, Julia, …)
- Skills in mathematical methods and modeling
- An innate need to decompose and understand complexities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Also helpful, but not required:
- Past internship or job experience in a quantitative research role
- Advanced coursework in machine learning, algorithms and network programming
About Our Summer Internship Program
You will be teamed with experienced researchers who will guide you through some of the problems that we face in quantitative trading. You will work in small teams to understand and attack the challenge, while receiving feedback throughout the project. At the end of the summer, you will give a presentation highlighting your work to leaders at Quantlab and your fellow interns.
You will also take classes and training sessions that will introduce you to the trading industry. The goal of our education program is to provide you the basic industry knowledge to better understand the work we do.
You are invited to participate in many Quantlab social activities, including pro sports games, company parties, and other outings in Houston. Interns may have access to fully paid gym memberships, company sponsored, in-office massage therapy and daily, free catered meals, snacks and beverages. Internships may also be 100% virtual. Should the internship be virtual, these perks may change accordingly.
