The Research Data Specialist I/II works as part of a team to develop and validate Contractors State License Board’s licensing examinations. The job consists of facilitating groups of subject matter experts, analyzing the occupations (job analysis), editing exam questions, and using exam statistics to ensure a high-quality product. The RDS I/II uses item banking software, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SurveyMonkey, testing applications, and travel-related applications. The position requires strengths in written and oral communication, project management, and statistics. The RDS I/II will learn about many building trades, for example, solar, electrical, carpentry, painting, flooring, and air conditioning. Applicants do NOT need experience in these occupations. The incumbent also works on blueprints and technical drawings. There is extensive training before a new hire would take over an examination program.

We prefer a Masters or PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, but are happy to consider anyone with a statistics, business, or research background (e.g., statistics, psychology, business administration, sociology, mathematics, etc.).

This position has many positive aspects in addition to the benefits of civil service. These include flexible hours, free parking, opportunities for advancement, strong support staff, access to training, autonomy, access to public transportation, some telework, and some travel.

Even if you do not think you meet all the qualifications above, we encourage you to apply if you are interested in the testing and assessment field. This is a good position for someone interested in test/exam development as a career.
