Summary

This position is responsible for the testing and evaluation of new products prior to manufacturing release. Verification and Validation (V&V) testing includes: prototype functional evaluation, optical measurements, environmental tests, field testing, and interfacing with regulatory compliance certification houses (FCC/UL/CE). Duties may also include R&D testing and evaluation of new optical sources and optical components.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

§ Follow established internal test procedures and plans in the evaluation of new products.

§ Collect, evaluate and report test data in an accurate and concise manner for engineers to review.

§ Establish new test procedures and reports as required.

§ Ability to design and/or convey requirements for special fixturing for optomechanical tests

§ Assist in calibration of optical test systems in Engineering and Manufacturing.

§ Assist in calibration of optical test systems at off-site contract manufacturers .

§ Must use sound engineering principles to identify and resolve test result inconsistencies. and implement solutions.

§ Utilize existing software and equipment in order to collect and report results.

§ Inspects optical and mechanical components for dimensional accuracy, optical quality, and functionality

§ Maintain good attendance and punctuality.

§ Maintain a positive and respectful attitude; cooperate with co-workers, management, internal and external customers, as applicable. Report any incidents of harassment to your Supervisor, Manager or Human Resources Manager.

§ Work safely at all times and report any unsafe conditions or injuries to your Supervisor or Manager immediately.

§ Other duties, as assigned by supervision or management.

Qualifications

§ Experience using PC controlled instrumentation and mechanical test fixturing.

§ Basic understanding of test data collection, analysis and reporting.

§ Basic experience using oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies.

§ Basic understanding of data logging devices and programmable controllers.

§ Basic understanding of LEDs and lasers, and battery chemistries used in portable lighting.

§ Self-starter and team player who possesses the ability to research and effectively resolve technical issues.

§ Must have technical writing skills necessary to generate product evaluations and test reports. 

§ Experience with detailed analysis for loop stability, thermal considerations, power efficiency, battery run times and overload conditions.

 

Education

§ Bachelor’s Degree in progress focused on Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics/Material Science, or related field of study.

Communication Skills

§ Ability to communicate complex concepts, proposals and plans.

 

Mathematical Skills

§  Ability to perform calculations utilizing algebra and fractions

§ Ability to utilize geometry to solve mechanical (i.e. engineering) problems.

 

Reasoning Ability

 § Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

§ Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills

§ Must be proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

§ Must be proficient in using and setting up hardware and software for USB, RS-232, and GPIB controlled test and measurement instrumentation.

§ Knowledge of drafting programs is a plus.

§ Knowledge of LabView, Visual C, or Visual Basic programming is a plus.
