Reporting to the Division of Prevention and Community Health’s Deputy Assistant Secretary, this Operations Research Specialist Supervisor serves diverse needs in division-wide informatics and analytics from family & community health to immunizations to chronic disease & injury prevention. The Office of the Assistant Secretary (OAS) provides leadership for divisional operations, policy, and equity work, connecting strategies and goals across our offices and between the Division and the Department’s core services. In this position, you’ll work closely with the Divisional Senior Epidemiologist to create & sustain Divisional support for public health informatics and advanced epidemiological analytics.

 

The position leads a unit in OAS that coordinates and conducts activities related to public health informatics, advanced analytics & data visualization. As the unit lead, you’ll provide innovative solutions for data modernization activities from data collection through advanced analytics and presentation. The unit includes staff with various areas of expertise – including public health informatics, epidemiology and project management – to support complex problem-solving goals and activities. As a hands-on contributor, you’ll perform and consult on highly complex, expert level analytics using the problem-solving skills of an experienced operations researcher, including machine learning, simulation and stochastic modeling, with the potential to consult on other types of optimization problems.

 

As a division-level leader, you’ll support making value out of complex data from across the PCH system portfolio by assuring data management & analytic excellence that aligns staff and enterprise needs; advising on development, implementation, maintenance and modification of complex information and analytic projects, including those affecting public health surveillance, program evaluation, and client services. You’ll also serve as a divisional technical resource, including gathering or analysis of highly complex data for preparation of periodic or special statistical and narrative reports. Teamwork, excellent two-way communications skills, and being a life-long-learner are essential for success.

 

This is a full-time, permanent Operations Research Specialist Supervisor position is located within the Prevention and Community Health Division (PCH) in the Office of the Assistant Secretary (OAS).

 

The duty station for this position is Tumwater, WA. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, telework (mobile-work) is currently expected. When approved to return to DOH campus, it is anticipated that the incumbent would be expected to report to the duty station on an as-needed basis with advanced notice. An alternative work schedule may be considered upon request and supervisor approval. Telework – once returned to the duty station for work activities, may be considered upon request with supervisory approval.
