General description

Performs complex (journey level) fundamental operational research and analysis work. Work involves conducting detailed operational due diligence research and analysis as pertains to investment managers and service providers and preparing analysis reports. On a preliminary and ongoing basis, reviews and evaluates the Business and Fund Structure; Compliance; Counterparties and Service Providers; Trading Processes and Controls; Valuation Processes and Controls; IT Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Policies; and Staffing Policies and Resources of investment management organizations to which the Trust has allocated or may potentially allocate. Assists in establishing, maintaining and/or oversight of systems, procedures, and controls. Prepares written and oral reports for use by the Investment Committee and Asset Valuation Committee. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

In this role you will:

  • Review and evaluate relevant fund documents, including but not limited to, Private Placement Memoranda, Limited Partnership Agreements, Compliance Manuals, Code of Ethics, Service Agreements, etc.
  • Conduct, (as appropriate, video conferences, conference calls, and on-site visits with relevant fund personnel.
  • Evaluate the compliance and operational control environment from front to back office.
  • Assess robustness and independence of valuation policy.
  • Assess quality of service providers by conducting conference calls and/or on-site visits as appropriate.
  • Review fund financial statements.
  • Documents research findings in due diligence reports and provides – as required – oral or written presentation of findings to internal Trust stakeholders (i.e., Portfolio Management, Finance, Risk & Legal).
  • Reviews and evaluates research conducted by the Trust’s outside advisory firms and keeps up to date with respect to industry operational best practices.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of the overall operational due diligence framework for the review and ongoing monitoring of investments made by the Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company (the “Trust”) in external management firms across different alternative strategies (i.e, Private Equity, Real Estate, Hedge Fund, etc.) and geographic regions.
  • Participates in group discussions and provides operational risk recommendations based on observations to relevant members of the Trust’s Finance, Legal, Operations, and Investment teams.
  • Performs related work and responds to ad-hoc requests.

Salary Range:

  • Investment Analyst II: $7,084-$8,060
  • Investment Analyst III: $8,334-$9,584

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree accounting, finance, economics, or a related business field.
  • Three (3) years’ full-time experience in any of the following: Operational role within an alternative asset fund, family office, fund of funds, or similar entity. Experience in an operational, compliance or legal support role with exposure to alternative investments within a financial services company. Experience within a service provider (Prime Broker, Compliance, Administrator, Auditor, etc.) to an alternative investment firm.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post graduate degree in accounting, finance, or a related business major.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ full-time experience in an operational due diligence role within a fund, family office, or fund of funds.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting operational due diligence on alternative asset management firms and documenting findings.


Preferred Education and Required Experience may substitute for one another on a year for year basis. MBA may substitute for one year of full-time accounting or investment operations experience.

License / Certifications:

A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment. Applicants offered an interview must present the following documents at or before the interview: A state issued driving record for the last 36 months; valid Texas driver’s license (or state of residency driver’s license); and current proof of automobile insurance.

Preferred License / Certifications: Possession of or work towards one or more of the following designations:

  • Chartered Alternative Investments Analyst (CAIA)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)

Salary is contingent upon qualifications. CPA employees in the same job classification, if selected, will be laterally transferred with no increase in salary. (An example might be an Accounts Examiner III in Revenue Administration who moves to an Accounts Examiner III in the Enforcement division).
