The 2-year Global Graduate development program is designed to develop critical skills by providing participants an opportunity to experience a range of placement assignments as they establish broad experience within Engineering. These carefully structured experiences will expose participants to a view of the “big picture” and capabilities in areas important to engineering. Rotations could include experiences in one Iberdrola location in Spain, Scotland, Brazil or Mexico and 2 rotations in the U.S. (Orange, CT, Rochester/Binghamton, NY and Augusta/Portland, ME).
For each assignment, participants will be required to meet specific outcomes and execute project plans. Along with rotations, members also are given opportunities to work on Process Improvement projects that relate to their rotations.
Job Responsibilities:
Graduate candidates will participate in a 2-year rotational program which will provide a broad view of the offshore wind business, giving recent graduates the opportunity for career advancement at Avangrid Renewables. In the program, each candidate will participate in 6-month rotations in several departments and disciplines that support the development of the company’s offshore wind portfolio. Departments and disciplines anticipated to be part of the rotation include, development, engineering, project management, stakeholder engagement, and permitting.
For one or more rotations, graduate candidates will be afforded the opportunity to work in the Development group of Avangrid Renewables’ Offshore Business. Development consists of state and federal permitting, stakeholder engagement, workforce development, and environmental affairs. Candidates will work closely with experts in these respective disciplines to gain an understanding of an offshore wind project during the initial planning and permitting phase. Working with discipline leads, candidates will be exposed to/interact with external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, commercial and recreational fishing industries, city and town council members, non-governmental organizations, higher education institutions, and union leaders.
As part of this program, Avangrid Renewables will provide an opportunity to gain exposure to the different functions necessary to successfully develop, construct, and operate large commercial-scale offshore wind projects. Rotations over the 2-year program may include experience in New Business to gain exposure to the risks and opportunities of early development options, Development for insights into permitting and activities related to the development of projects in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, Engineering to participate in early-stage engineering and design principles in civil, electrical, or structural disciplines, and Operation and Maintenance to gain familiarity on the planning and organization necessary to operate a major power generation facility.
The duties of the successful graduate will be varied but rewarding for those with a can-do attitude and agility to multi-task and adapt to change quickly. During each rotation, the successful graduate should expect to implement the following tasks: general project management activities, due diligence, evaluation and assimilation of complex information, report, stakeholder engagement and public affairs.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Degree in Engineering, Science, Planning and/or Mathematics or similar are preferred
- Passion for sustainable energy transition
- Proven ability to assimilate, evaluate and report information
- Effective communicator
