ASD is a dynamic and evolving organization on the forefront of innovation and technological change within the financial services industry. The Controls team is responsible for coordinating the end-to-end regulatory, technology, finance and operational controls for ASD. This includes, among other things, managing regulatory and audit remediations, process reengineering, governance, ownership enhancement and overseeing ASD’s risk management framework

Job Purpose:

This role has been created to join the 1LOD risk and control team within ASD Control. This team is responsible for oversight of ASD’s key risks, ensuring ASD is making the best use of the risk management framework and that ASD is complying with BNYM and ASD risk management policies

Responsibilities:

Specific responsibilities will be agreed in consultation with the successful candidate and will include:

  • Contribute to the quarterly High Level Assessment process; ensuring that ASD’s inherent and residual risks are accurately articulated and assessed
  • Support the development of ASD’s risk appetite statement and related key risk indicators to measure risk levels
  • Collects, analyses and synthesizes data around ASD’s adherence to the risk tolerance levels commensurate with the risk appetite statement
  • Support ASD’s scenario analysis process
  • Oversee ASD’s Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) and provide necessary guidance and challenge to RCSA owners to ensure ASD’s RCSAs remain fit for purpose
  • Manage Operational Risk Events from reporting through to closure in accordance with corporate policy, includes performance of root cause analysis
  • Supports efforts to educate and promote ASD’s awareness of the Bank’s Risk Management Framework

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • 3-5 years of total work experience preferred, experience in Audit, Compliance or Risk preferred

Person specification:

Business Expertise: Expected to have or be able to develop a deep understanding of the risk and control environment within BNYM including relevant Corporate Policies and risk appetite. A broad understanding of the business and corporate imperatives to ensure the risk and control framework supports these imperatives. An understanding of the company structure would be an advantage.

Problem Solving: Must have the ability to analyse and assess business activities in relation to risk management as well as the ability to interpret policies and procedures in a way that will support the business whilst maintaining compliance.

This position requires

  • Experience handling / managing complex documentation and workflow around such documentation a plus
  • Up to date understanding of the role of 1LOD and risk frameworks within banks
  • Process oriented “change agent” mindset
  • Ability to think and execute quickly in a fast moving environment with proper risk lens and balance
  • Ability to lead, work with and influence across the organization including senior management
  • Ability to work under time constraints
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

  • Strong organisational skills – completer/finisher
  • Needs to be seen as a trusted advisor
