INROADS and ALDI : District Manager Internships

INROADS is partnering with ALDI with District Manager Internships. Apply today!!

INROADS is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that gives high-potential future executives from culturally, ethnically and economically diverse backgrounds a competitive advantage in their careers. We provide unparalleled networking opportunities with career-minded peers; year-round professional coaching and guidance from managers; and professional development. We also provide management training that includes career related, paid internships with some of America’s top organizations.

Aldi (stylised as ALDI) is the common brand of two German family-owned discount supermarket chains with over 10,000 stores in 20 countries, and an estimated combined turnover of more than €50 billion. Based in Germany, the chain was founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht in 1946 when they took over their mother’s store in Essen. The business was split into two separate groups in 1960, that later became Aldi Nord, headquartered in Essen, and Aldi Süd, headquartered in Mülheim. In 1962, they introduced the name Aldi (a syllabic abbreviation for Albrecht Diskont), which is pronounced. In Germany, Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have been financially and legally separate since 1966, although both divisions’ names may appear as if they were a single enterprise with certain store brands or when negotiating with contractor companies. The formal business name is Aldi Einkauf GmbH & Compagnie, oHG.
Aldi’s German operations consist of Aldi Nord’s 35 individual regional companies with about 2,500 stores in western, northern, and eastern Germany, and Aldi Süd’s 32 regional companies with 1,600 stores in western and southern Germany. Internationally, Aldi Nord operates in Denmark, France, the Benelux countries, Portugal, Spain and Poland, while Aldi Süd operates in Ireland, Great Britain, Hungary, Switzerland, Australia, China, Italy, Austria and Slovenia. Both Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd also operate in the United States with 1,600 stores as of 2017 (and is the only country to have both of Aldi’s subsidiaries operating outside of Germany).

The ALDI District Manager Internship

Locations: Multiple locations

Our ten-week paid internship is a snapshot of the District Manager position. It will provide you insight into our company culture, and show the commitment and hard work it takes to succeed as a District Manager at ALDI.

From Day 1, you’ll be immersed in the inner workings of a successful and dynamic workplace, plus you will earn a $1,000 weekly salary. You’ll be given real responsibility, real assignments and a real chance to show what you’re capable of. If you’re in an undergraduate or graduate program and have a G.P.A. of 3.0 and above, our District Manager Internship program is a great way to begin your career journey at ALDI.

Here is how the 10-week program works:

Weeks 1-2:

The first two weeks are spent training with a District Manager, giving you real insight into their day-to-day responsibilities. You won’t sit on the sidelines, though. From day 1 you’ll be assisting the District Manager within their district.

Weeks 3-5:

For three weeks you’ll work with the Store Manager and master every aspect of how the store runs, from running the register to merchandising the entire store.

Weeks 6-7:

You’ll train with a second District Manager and gain exposure to areas such as staffing, supervision of policies and employee development. Every District Manager has their own way of getting things done, and so will you.

Weeks 8-9:

At this point, you will begin to combine all of your training into a practicable core of knowledge to put into action, even performing some District Manager tasks independently.

Week 10:

The last days of your internship are spent learning corporate strategy directly from the Divisional Directors and Vice Presidents. You will present your completed summer project to them at this time. It’s an excellent way to put your talents front and center.
