Job Posting: Investment Analyst/Associates, Upwelling Capital Group LLC (Upwelling)

Upwelling has a fast-paced, team-oriented, entrepreneurial culture. The scope of our investment activities ranges from direct investments and underwriting of private equity funds to intermediation of concentrated and diversified private capital portfolios. Investment strategies include venture capital, buyout, private credit and real assets with a focus on secondary market opportunities. Upwelling utilizes its global network to source new investments and advisory opportunities. Further, our relationships with industry practitioners allow us to gather critical information to incorporate into our analysis to facilitate transaction execution.

Upwelling is seeking investment analysts/associates to support our mid-level and senior professionals in both our financial advisory and investment advisory functional areas. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Comprehensive market analysis by strategy, sector and geography
  • Industry research on new technologies and leadership teams
  • Use of proprietary databases to gather information and track transaction activities
  • Financial modeling used for asset valuations and returns forecasting
  • Investment due diligence calls
  • Drafting of marketing materials and investment memorandum
  • Monitoring of direct and fund investments
  • Portfolio benchmarking and performance attribution

Because we are a boutique, each person can “wear many hats” and gain experience across our broad financial and investment advisory services. Candidates should be analytical and possess strong quantitative and communication skills. It is essential that each candidate has experience using Excel for statistical or financial modeling. Candidates will be heavily involved with the creation of client presentations which will include the extensive use of PowerPoint, Word and Excel. Further, candidates will oversee data input into Upwelling’s proprietary databases, coordinating general client communication and tracking market outreach activities. A background in data analysis, accounting and corporate finance is helpful. Attention to detail is critical while having the ability to develop an understanding of any given opportunity or investment mandate. The ideal candidate is expected to perform their roles and responsibilities in an independent work environment, while benefiting from direct channels of communication with the senior members of the firm.

Ideal candidates should have a minimum of one to three years of work experience in related fields of financial services. However, we are also interested in recent or upcoming graduates who have little to no experience in the industry that have a strong interest in the field. Series 7 and 66 securities license is a plus but not required. In any case, candidates will be required to pass these exams within the first six months of employment (paid for by the firm).

The position is based in Davis, California but we are open to discussing hybrid or remote work structures as appropriate. The compensation package includes salary, bonus, healthcare and retirement benefits.
