ABOUT NEW YORK CITY CYBER COMMANDNew York City Cyber Command (NYC3) is committed to protecting City systems that provide vital services to New Yorkers from cyber threats, and helping residents become safer in their digital lives. As the organization defending the largest municipality in the country, NYC3 is charged with directing citywide incident response, setting citywide cybersecurity policies and standards and working with city agencies to strengthen their cyber defenses.JOB DESCRIPTIONNYC3’s Security Sciences Division is seeking a motivated Cyber Policy Summer Intern to support our cybersecurity mission during the summer 2020 term. Under the supervision of the Security Sciences Senior Advisor, the Cyber Policy Intern will help develop procedures and standards for implementing internal security controls and update citywide cyber policy. The intern will also work with the Security Sciences IT Project Manager to learn about project management and help manage ongoing projects designed to deploy new defensive capabilities across NYC. Additional activities include: – Edit cyber policy and procedure documents prior to final publication – Research local, state, and federal cybersecurity legislation relevant to NYC3- Develop processes to manage Security Sciences’ budget and contracts- Recommend and collect metrics for Security Sciences strategic objectives – Research trends in Identity & Access Management (IAM) and the “Zero Trust” model – Provide recommendations for Security Sciences’ cyber workforce management – Manage project plans and track short-term project deliverables MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSAll candidates must be enrolled in a degree bearing program at an accredited institution.PREFERRED SKILLS- Pursuing a degree in public policy, political science, economics, or security studies with a demonstrated interest in cybersecurity- Pursuing a degree in computer science or cybersecurity with a demonstrated interest in public policy- Strong written and oral communications skills – Basic knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols – Basic knowledge of core cybersecurity technologies – Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (NIST CSF, CIS Controls, etc) – Familiarity with cybersecurity laws, statutes, and executive directives. – Knowledge of the roles, responsibilities, and authorities of federal agencies with cybersecurity mandates- Experience completing projects according to outlined scope and timeline – Enthusiasm to learn through a combination of structured, on-the-job, and self-directed training *SPECIAL NOTEDue to the current COVID-19 crisis, this opportunity will be remote and unpaid.Summer Internships are full time internships for students in degree bearing programs at an accredited institution. This classification of interns must show either proof of their university giving academic credit, or funding from their university or an authorized 3rd party.The length of the internship cannot exceed 13 weeks and must take place between the start of June and the end of August. Students are required to work a minimum of 17 hours per week.  NYC3 will provide equipment for this internship period. The students will be required to have their own internet connectivity.
