POSITION DESCRIPTION

Assistant Teaching Professor

The DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING & OPERATIONS RESEARCH (IEOR) at the University of California, Berkeley welcomes applications for a teaching assistant professor specializing in teaching. This faculty position carries full membership in the Academic Senate with rights and responsibilities that are comparable to the standard professorial track, but with an emphasis on teaching and educational scholarship.

The department offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees and is at the forefront of research and teaching of operations research and analytics methods, as well as the advancement of quantitative methodologies to solve problems in the areas of healthcare, logistics, supply chains, energy, security, finance, and e-commerce. The department has strong ties with other departments in the UC Berkeley College of Engineering and enjoys close relationships with the departments of Statistics, Mathematics, and Economics, as well as with the Haas School of Business.

The department is launching a new professional Master of Analytics degree program with strong ties to technology companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. The 11-month in-person Master of Analytics program will train students in data-driven analytical methods and tools for optimization, probability/statistics, and machine learning with relevant industry context. The teaching assistant professor will play a major role in the success of this exciting new degree program. For more on the Master of Analytics program, please visit analytics.berkeley.edu.

The primary focus of this position is teaching core Master of Analytics, Master of Engineering, and Undergraduate courses; and developing teaching pedagogy particularly in the areas of optimization, probability/statistics, machine learning, and data analytics. QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must have completed, or be in the process of completing , a PhD or an equivalent international degree at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications

One or more years teaching experience at the college level.
