POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

TEMPORARY POSITION

OFFICE: STATE PARK SERVICE DATE: 06.27.2022

LOCATION: Kings Mountain State Park

INTERNAL TITLE: Assistant Park Ranger

MINIMUM SALARY FOR NEW HIRE: $9.00 per hour with Housing/utilities provided

This is a full time, NON- permanent field position, which is up to 40 hours a week. This position is temporary. This is an entry level ranger position for the South Carolina Park Service.

Dorm style housing is provided.

JOB PURPOSE:

Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with Department guidelines and procedures and planning of long and short-term goals. Performs maintenance duties around the park (electrical, plumbing, grounds keeping, etc). Collects and accounts for revenue and produces required reports. Instructs, supervises and performs routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings and equipment. Assist with operations to include public use areas, retail operations and facilities. Maintains a safe work environment. Assists in control of inventories of equipment, supplies and retail items by issue, use and counts; completes data reports. Interprets the cultural and natural resources of the State Park Service to park visitors.

MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Associate’s degree in Park Management, Parks and Recreation, Business, or related field

***Candidates MUST specifically meet these required qualifications or an equivalent combination of education and experience to be considered for this position.***

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other materials used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid South Carolina Driver’s License
