We’re looking to fill the Analyst role starting in early June. We will be accepting applications through May 6th.
Analytics is at the heart of Analyst Institute’s work (perhaps unsurprisingly), and we are looking for an Analyst to join our Research Team. You’ll be part of a capable analytics cohort, partnering with key campaigns and organizations to apply your skills in data, statistics, politics, and advocacy to some of the biggest questions in progressive politics. Your co-workers and the organizations you partner with will be among the best in the business.
As an Analyst on the Research Team, you’ll:
- Prepare, randomize and analyze experiments that directly measure the effectiveness of real-world programs
- Analyze and review implementation data of experiments and programs as they are run
- Implement and visualize a variety of quantitative analyses, including non–experimental observational analyses
- Wrangle real-world data using R, SQL, and other tools
- Contribute to the maintenance of Analyst Institute’s collaborative R codebase
- Draw from more than a decade of past experimental results to create broad lessons for the progressive community
The following encompasses many of the skills and experiences we consider core aspects for the Analyst role, but we encourage you to apply even if you do not meet all of the qualifications. You should be someone who:
- Is passionate about progressive politics
- Is committed to working with those representing historically marginalized communities in an equitable and inclusive manner
- Has worked with data and statistics using R in a personal, academic, or professional capacity
- Has some exposure to the concepts of experimental design and causal inference
- Has a demonstrated ability to stay organized and work through complex projects with firm deadlines
- Enjoys both collaborative work with small teams and working independently
Though not required, we are additionally interested in people with the following experience or familiarity (please be sure to note these in your resume and/or cover letter):
- Expertise with R; for example, you have created your own packages or contributed to open-source packages
- SQL, such as executing and optimizing basic queries
- Other programming/scripting languages, such as Python
- Git and version control
- Command line and shell scripting in Linux or Unix systems
- Observational and qualitative research methods
- Survey methodology and polling
- Predictive analytics and machine learning techniques
- Crafting and presenting client-ready deliverables in a professional setting
- Prior work in progressive data and analytics, particularly with voter file data

- Location: We are equally open to candidates working from our D.C.-based office near McPherson Square (pandemic-permitting) or remotely. Roughly half of our staff works remotely regardless of the status of the pandemic, and our internal culture fully supports and integrates remote staff. When it is safe to do so, remote staff may be asked to come to D.C. periodically for training, important convenings, and team-building.
- Start date: We are looking for this position to start in June 2022. This is a full-time, exempt position.
- Compensation range: Salary commensurate with job responsibilities, from $55,000 to $75,000
