The Partnership’s research team advises government on topics such as customer experience, artificial intelligence, data, technology modernization, innovation, change management, recruiting and hiring talent, employee engagement, performance management and presidential transition. The Research, Analysis and Evaluation team also oversees the Partnership’s monitoring, evaluation, and learning portfolio.

Research, Analysis and Evaluation interns will have the opportunity to work on research products, data analysis, and/or program evaluations. Interns may contribute to high-visibility reports, insightful issue briefs and innovative research projects that aim to make the government more effective. One example is the Best Places to Work in the Federal Government® Rankings. Additionally, interns may assist in evaluating the short-and long-term outcomes of the Partnership’s programs and support efforts to increase data-driven decision-making.

Interns’ specific responsibilities will include a combination of conducting background research, taking notes, attending and writing summaries of interviews with federal leaders and private sector experts, analyzing program data and/or responding to information requests. Many activities will revolve around preparing for and transcribing qualitative interviews. Research interns also may assist in planning and carrying out the logistics of roundtable discussions and public-facing report release events. Interns may also collect, analyze and present on quantitative and qualitative data and assist with survey design and management.

The ideal candidate will have some social science research experience, possess strong writing skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Experience with qualitative research as well as strong organization and time management skills are strongly preferred. Experience with Qualtrics is a plus. Candidates should be able to work both independently and in a team setting.  


This job operates in a professional office environment in Washington, DC. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer and scanner. Please note that as a result of COVID-19, Partnership staff are currently working remotely.



Business hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, though exact work hours may vary depending on availability and need. Academic schedules will be accommodated; a part-time schedule may be considered. There may be occasional early morning or evening activities required.



If travel occurs, it is local and during the business day. 


The Public Service Internship Program is an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent graduates to contribute to the Partnership’s mission while developing valuable professional skills.

Spring 2022 internships available in:

  • Communications: 5 positions (ideal for those interested in communications, marketing, events planning)
  • Development: 1 position (ideal for those interested in nonprofit fundraising and relationship management)
  • Government affairs: 2-3 positions (ideal for those interested in the legislative process and federal policies)
  • Government leadership and management programs (federal workforce, government effectiveness, leadership development): 6-8 positions (ideal for those interested in organizational and leadership development, human capital, business of government, the federal hiring process)
  • Presidential transition: 2-3 positions (ideal for those interested in presidential transition)
  • Research, analysis and program evaluation: 2-3 positions (ideal for those interested in social science research)
  • HR and Operations: 1-2 positions (ideal for those interested in Human Resources)
