Are you an aspiring Master Sommelier? Do you enjoy learning about (and drinking!) wine and other spirits from around the world? Amali restaurant seeks a wine and beverage management intern for our summer season. Our wine list offers approximately 400 selections and has received awards from Wine Enthusiast (100 Best Wine Restaurants in America), Wine Spectator (Award for Excellence), and Wine & Spirits Magazine. Our restaurant has been an Eater Top 38 NYC Restaurant and we have received praise from the New York Times, NY Mag, the Wall Street Journal, and Vogue.The internship will consist of the following projects and duties:- Conducts inventory with Beverage Manager- Sits in on wine tastings; gives recommendations with an eye to all restaurants in group- Analyzes beverage sales and purchases for restaurant group- Maintains database of wines tasted for restaurant group- Assists in changes to wine lists- Assists in cocktail creation and spirits curation- Develops training materials and assists in training programs- Places and manages orders with vendorsInterns will receive a working knowledge of how to manage a successful restaurant beverage program and the everyday functions of a restaurateur.  Our ideal candidate is organized, creative, self-motivated, and has a passion for food and wine. Previous experience is not required but enthusiasm for the industry is necessary. Interns typically work between 20-50 hours a week, depending on location and the candidates experience. Culinary, hours worked on the floor or the restaurant and clerical work not related to an education project for college credit is paid at New York State Minimum Wage or Tipped Minimum Wage in the county of their employment and/or as otherwise reflected in their offer letter.  All interns will be asked to work a discrete number of high-volume summer weekends at Calissa in Southampton (housing provided).The internship portion of this program is for-credit and unpaid. Paid work hours in the restaurants are available to students who would like them, position and hours available commiserate on students past experience, their desire to learn and the needs of the business. Paid hours may be available at Amali, Bar Marseille, Collective Retreats, or weekends at Calissa in the Hamptons, in which case housing would be provided. Paid hours may be also be available at pending projects in the greater New York and Long Island areas.
