JOB DESCRIPTION:The Planning Services Senior Analyst takes a lead role within the Surface Network Planning team to support the ground network planning strategies. He/She is responsible for managing strategic relationships within the enterprise relating to ongoing, multi-year programs relevant to a business unit’s transportation network. The Planning Services Senior Analyst deploys and uses decision support tools by leveraging advanced problem solving techniques and technology to provide thought leadership for improved network effectiveness across multiple phases. This position leads complex process development or improvement and involvement in strategic communication with stakeholders. The Planning Services Senior Analyst develops and enhances complex models and processes supporting UPS corporate vision to reduce transportation network cost, increase network efficiency and grow profitable revenue.The Planning Services Senior Analyst also identifies data requirements for project scope to determine project responsibilities, teammates, customers and researches background information to create project baselines used for identifying initial steps and project outcomes. He/She communicates process changes to UPS stakeholders to maintain a consistent, global understanding of plan changes within the organization. He/She analyzes data-modeling needs to determine data necessary to feed models and creates draft data models to meet the needs of analytical tools. The Planning Services Senior Analyst also identifies areas of improvement that have a high impact on the forecast process to direct development efforts to the proper areas, in addition to evaluating and critiquing the current forecasting process to ascertain methods for improving the process. He/She implements advanced analytics models and solutions to yield predictive and prescriptive insights from large volumes of structured and unstructured data. He/She also works with a team that is responsible for researching and implementing advanced analytics models utilizing a diverse set of techniques. Responsibilities and DutiesDevelops data design based on exploratory data analysis to meet stated business needIdentifies data requirements for the Enterprise Transportation Network Planning program to effectively leverage data, knowledge, and toolsIdentifies areas of improvement that have a high impact on the forecast process to direct development efforts to the proper areasSynthesizes insights and documents findings through clear and concise presentations and reports to inform stakeholdersDevelops effective written and verbal communication strategies to gain consensus by clearly relaying key issues to UPS stakeholdersAudits and tests new processes to verify they operate successfully and automates processes where appropriate to increase process efficiency and accuracyResearches academic journals and textbooks for new mathematical and statistical methods to improve the modelsEstablishes enterprise processes for strategic network planning and integration to maintain consistent planning approachesDefines model KPI expectations and validation, testing, and re-training of existing models to meet business objectivesReviews and creates repeatable solutions through written project documentation, process flowcharts, logs, and commented clean code to produce datasets that can be used in analytics and/or predictive modelingWorks with team using agile processes to develop modelsLeverages analytics and visualization tools to design and present information to drive fact-based decision makingKnowledge and SkillsIdentifies current and future needs of the customer or business;
