Fellows, individuals interested in entering the social sector, work on-site full-time at a partner nonprofit to develop or implement a pre-determined enrichment program. Throughout the fellowship, fellows gain various professional skills including fundraising, communication, program development, in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment.Kids First Law Center Overview:Kids First Law Center in Des Moines aims to help children deal with the trauma of divorce in their family by (a) providing educational divorce workshops for all children whose parents file for divorce in Polk County, and (b) providing legal representation (without regard for a family’s ability to pay) to children whose parents are engaged in a high-conflict divorce or custody battle. Kids First Law Center gives children information and tools to self-advocate and communicate effectively so that their voice is heard in divorce and custody conflicts. Position Overview and Responsibilities:You will …Evaluate and update survey instruments that are used for Kids First’s two services: educational divorce workshops and legal representationEnsure that these survey instruments measure both the efficacy of the programs as well as capture feedback to improve servicesLearn and understand the purpose of the method of the educational divorce workshops Work with Kids First attorneys to understand their goals in child representation Attend pre-fellowship training retreat from May 26-29, 2020 (expenses covered)Actively participate in weekly FLIA professional development responsibilities including check-in callsBy the end of the fellowship, you will have … Developed updated surveys for educational divorce workshops and legal representationRaised $500 (with guidance and support from FLIA)Written two blog articlesCompleted final report and video Position Qualifications:Comfortable working with youth Commitment to continuous professional improvement and reflectionResourcefulness and initiative Passionate about social sector Use patience and tolerance to address problems Demonstrate integrity Demonstrate ability to work independently and in a teamNote:A background check is required after a conditional job offer is made.
