Instead of going on coffee runs and making copies, you’ll be seated at the table making critical decisions that will influence not only your team, but the overall achievement of Tesla’s mission.LocationsFremont, CAReno, NVAbout the TeamInterns within our Supply Chain Organization support the development, implementation and management of strategies to provide Tesla with optimal supply assurance, pricing, flexibility, quality and delivery performance. Interns build and leverages strong working relationships with our engineering teams and key suppliers to assure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met. They work toward good supplier relationships and total costs of ownership to achieve maximum advantage for Tesla and our customers.DepartmentsDirect Purchasing (Materials and Parts for Products)Indirect Purchasing (Supplies for Operations)Capital EquipmentEngineering Procurement and ConstructionWhat to ExpectDepending on the area in which you are focused, you can expect the following:Support the Tesla Engineering and Program teams for both future program and current production. Build technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, technology landscape, and supply base for responsible sub-systems.Develop and issue complete RFQ packages to potential suppliersValidate, analyze, and make sourcing recommendations based on quote packages from suppliers.Support organizational cost management objectives by identifying and negotiating commercial cost reduction opportunities.Work with Suppliers and Engineering to release equipment into production.Execute the Infrastructure Development sourcing strategy.Develop strong stakeholder support and cooperation on assigned commodities which can range from facilities and construction services along with equipment, and material buyouts.Pre-qualify and synthesize supplier, industry and market research for assigned commodities to develop sourcing strategyProcess of data collection and analyzes of spend data for assigned commodities.Ensuring commodity spend is managed efficiently and effectively and within contract compliance.Establish measurement metrics and tools to monitor progress, such as tracking labor productivity burn ratesImplementing Worldwide/Regional/Country agreements, as necessary, to consolidate suppliers/spend.Provide analysis of existing requirements and pricing to ensure the most cost-effective options.Analyze historical spend as well as forecast spend and savings by commodity/business.Develop solid understanding of cost drivers and contracts by commodityMaintain day-to-day supplier relationships; act as the lead point of contact for all commercial issues.Identify and negotiate commercial cost reduction opportunitiesSupport Engineering to identify suppliers available for sourcing.Issue RFx (RFQ, RFB, and RFP) for sourcing assigned commodities.Work on “Lean” initiatives and identify other sourcing efficiencies via benchmarking, VA/VE, competitive quotes and resourcing.Negotiate, evaluate and issue PO’s for assigned commodities.Review change order proposals and make approval or rejection recommendations.Support the purchase order closeout process including reconciliation of material receipts, billings, changes, and payments.RequirementsPursuing undergraduate, Masters, or MBA program in related fields, including Construction experience for EPC candidates3+ internship, project, or work experience in related fieldAbility to effectively communicate verbally and excellent time management skills
