The Kroger Co.Position Title: Logistics SpecialistDepartment: LogisticsPosition Reports To: Transportation Center Supervisor, LogisticsPosition supervises: N/APay Level: 5FLSA Status: ExemptPosition Summary:Support both outbound route planning and inbound freight management for the Kroger Transportation Center (KTC). Manage costs and revenue for managed freight and route all distribution center and manufacturing store orders to ensure on-time delivery of product. Communicate with various business partners and provide staff support and technical assistance to the KTC and affiliated divisions. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.Essential Job Functions:• Procure freight, identify transportation requirements, handle freight bid negotiations and make carrier selection• Establish routing guides for all new inbound business to ensure lowest cost and greatest revenuewhile maintaining excellent service• Review costs and profitability on Kroger managed lanes regularly• Audit freight payment process for accuracy and timeliness through current freight payment systems• Maintain the Transportation Management Systems (TMS)• Prepare reports and explain financial performance related to managed freight• Promote movement of inbound freight on the company’s available fleet resources• Coach and mentor KTC staff in performance of duties; provide transportation supervisor withfeedback• Tender freight orders to preferred company carriers• Monitor inbound TMS to ensure carrier acceptance and rating of shipments• Plan all outbound store delivery orders while meeting precise delivery times (PDTs), maximizingtrailer cube and minimizing miles driven while also reducing empty miles• Plan, schedule, and route vendor pickups as direct store delivery backhaul returns• Maintain accurate route plan data from daily routing sessions and report results• Review transportation metrics to suggest and implement steps to achieve improvements• Perform “what if” routing analysis and continually strive to find efficient ways to route and reducetransportation costs• Maintain ability to work various shifts, including weekends, nights and holidays• Must be able to perform the essential function of this position with or without reasonableaccommodationBehaviors/Skills:Some of the Leadership Behaviors needed to successfully perform this position are:• Puts the Customer First – Anticipates customer needs, champions for the customer, acts withcustomers in mind, exceeds customers’ expectations, gains customers’ trust and respect.• Communicates effectively and candidly – Communicates clearly and directly, approachable, relates well to others, engages people and helps them understand change, provides and seeks feedback, articulates clearly, actively listens.• Achieves results through teamwork – Is open to diverse ideas, works inclusively andcollaboratively, holds self and others accountable, involves others to accomplish individual and team goals.• Leads through positive influence – Demonstrates strong character; builds partnerships; models aconscious balance between work and personal life; takes personal responsibility for owndevelopment; role models leadership qualities such as motivation, inspiration, passion and trust.• Coaches and develops others – Develops and cares about associates, builds effective teams, helps people be their best, values and manages diversity, provides candid and constructive feedback.• Leads change and innovation – Challenges the status quo, embraces technology, puts forwardcreative ideas, champions and implements process improvements, gathers the ideas of others,demonstrates good judgment about which ideas will work.• Executes with excellence – Is action oriented, drives for results, sets clear expectations andmilestones, reviews progress, acts decisively, solves problems, can be counted on to consistently meet or exceed goals.• Provides clear and strategic direction – Plans and organizes well, sets a clear and simple course of action, stays focused on the most important priorities, has the ability to visualize and plan for thefuture, understands the industry and marketplace.• Safety Awareness -Identifying and correcting conditions that affect employee safety; upholdingsafety standards.Minimum Position Qualifications/Education:• College Degree• Proficient in Microsoft Office• Good organizational and time management skills and ability to meet deadlines• Highly analytical with ability to understand/resolve complex operational issues involving numerous, ever-changing variables and constraints• Ability to identify new methods/processes, determine impact and develop implementation plan• Ability to identify/communicate system issues quickly and effectivelyDesired Previous Job Experience:• Proficient in TMS, specific to JDA fleet management, One Network and i-Trade, procurementapplications and Kroger web applications• Team oriented leadership experience• Experience in warehouse shipping/receiving, supply chain, general freight hauling, direct storedelivery and backhauling transportation operations
