Future of Human Rights Intern – Summer 2020 (Washington, D.C.)Call for Applications Four macro-trends threaten to make present-day human rights advocacy obsolete: climate change, rising authoritarian populism around the world, increasing levels of economic inequality, and rapid changes to technology, chiefly social media and artificial intelligence. This internship will focus on conducting research into the intersection of each of these four macro-trends and human rights, illuminating the potential consequences of each trend on present-day human rights activism. The internship will include writing a concluding report which synthesizes the research conducted ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESCollect and compile all relevant literature on the future of human rights and the intersection of human rights w/ four major macro-trends: climate change, authoritarian populism, economic inequality, and changes to technologyCreate a weekly report to HRF leadership on significant research findingsInterview individuals and organizations regarding the future of human rightsConduct research to suggest additional interview candidates knowledgeable about the future of human rightsSynthesize research into an end of internship reportREQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCERelevant majors include but are not limited to political science, economics, psychology, sociologyJunior or senior in undergraduate program required; MA candidate preferredStrong online research and writing skills requiredExperience conducting interviews preferred but not essentialEDUCATION: Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a master program; Or senior for undergraduate program.COMPENSATION: UnpaidSTART DATE: June 1, 2020. Start and end dates are negotiable.TIME COMMITMENT: 15 hours per week minimum.
