Business Overview: About the Global Markets Economic Research group: The objective of the Economic Research team is to provide economic analysis and forecasts of economic data releases for traders, sales people, and clients through publications, client visits, meetings, conference calls, conferences and the media. The primary publications include daily, weekly and quarterly pieces as well as more in depth thought pieces. There are regional economics teams around the world with Paul Mortimer-Lee the Global Head of Market Economics and the Chief North America Economist. The North American economics team is based in NY and has a total of four economists covering the US and Canada and another two economists covering Latam. Responsibilities: The economists in the Economic Research Group analyze macroeconomic data, fiscal policy, and Federal Reserve actions, in order to interpret their effect on the US and global economy and, ultimately, their impact on US and global trading markets. Economists provide immediate commentary on major economic events and as economic data are released by publishing market snapshots, speaking with trading and sales teams, and providing additional deeper analysis in daily/weekly publications. The economists maintain a large number of economic models and spend about half of their time analyzing and writing, and half talking with clients, salespersons, traders, policymakers and media. Economists work together to develop data analysis, econometric modeling, chart creation, and other more immediate needs.
