Barna Saha joins Berkeley IEOR

The Department of Industrial Engineering & Operations Research at the University of California, Berkeley is excited to announce that Barna Saha will be joining the department as an assistant professor starting this fall 2019.

Barna joins the department from the University of Massachusetts Amherst where she was a professor of computer science. Before joining academia, Barna was a research scientist at AT&T Shannon Laboratories in New Jersey.

Barna received her PhD in computer science from the University of Maryland College Park in 2011. Her research interests include theoretical computer science, probabilistic method & randomized algorithms, and large scale data analytics.

Though her career is still young, she has already received several prestigious awards, including the Sloan Fellowship, NSF Career Award, NSF CRII Award, the Google Faculty Research Award, and the Yahoo Academic Enhancement Award.

While Barna will be new to the IEOR department, she is already familiar with Berkeley as she was a Simons Institute fellow in the fall of 2015.
