Pedro Traverso and family

Pedro Traverso, MS IEOR ‘03, looks back at his time at UC Berkeley and the IEOR department with deep fondness and gratitude. His experience at Cal not only shaped the way he thinks about systems and problemsolving, but it also instilled a lasting sense of purpose and responsibility within him. The analytical tools and human values he gained at Cal have stayed with him ever since.

Today, he is based in Santiago, Chile, where he teaches Operations Management in the MBA program at Universidad Católica. He also works as a consultant in the field of operations and process improvement for a variety of organizations, something he finds constantly rewarding and intellectually engaging.

Outside of work, he is a proud father of three amazing children—all of whom are already loyal Berkeley fans, despite the distance! They’ve all grown up hearing stories about Cal and the incredible energy of the Berkeley campus.

One of the most meaningful milestones in his professional life came 15 years ago, when he founded a company in Chile with a very specific mission: to donate 100% of its profits to nonprofit organizations working to organizations working to improve lives across the country. To Pedro, building and growing this company has been a humbling and fulfilling journey, allowing him to align his business work with a deeper social impact. It’s an ongoing project that reflects the values he absorbed during his time at Berkeley—particularly the idea that our skills and decisions can be used to create real change.

Pedro continues to use his knowledge, experience, and heart to make the world a better place and Berkeley is proud to call him a Bear!
