Public Transportation

From San Francisco International Airport (SFO):
The easiest way to get from the San Francisco Airport to Berkeley is BART.

  • The SFO BART Station is located in the International Terminal Level 3. A Richmond train will take you directly to the Downtown Berkeley Bart Station, which is two blocks from the campus and one block from the Hotel Shattuck Plaza.
  • Or take a Pittsburg/Bay Point train and transfer to a Richmond train at the 19th Street station in Oakland.
  • A one-way ticket from SFO to Berkeley is $9.55 (check the BART fare calculator for the most up to date prices).
  • BART Tickets can be purchased at the station(s); BART typically runs to 12:30am.

From Oakland International Airport (OAK):

  • Take the Air BART Shuttle to the Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART station.
  • Air BART Shuttle fares can be paid on-board bus with exact change of $3.00.
  • Take a Richmond train to the Downtown Berkeley station.
  • Or take a Pittsburg/Bay Point train and transfer to a Richmond train at the 19th Street station in Oakland, exit Downtown Berkeley.
  • A one-way ticket on BART from the Coliseum/Oakland Airport station to Downtown Berkeley is $8.60  (check the BART fare calculator for the most up to date prices).
  • BART Tickets can be purchased at the station(s); BART typically runs to 12:30am.

Shuttle from SFO and Oakland

The Bay Porter Express offers shuttle service to and from both airports. They require at least a 24-hour advance reservation. The price from the San Francisco Airport to Berkeley is $34.00 and the price from the Oakland Airport to Berkeley is $25.00. This shuttle service operates between 3:30 a.m. and midnight for San Francisco and 3:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. for Oakland.

The Super Shuttle provides service to and from both airports. They require at least a 24-hour advance reservation. The price from the San Francisco Airport to Berkeley is $38.00 and the price from the Oakland Airport to Berkeley is $29.00.

Taxi/Rental Cars

Cab fare from the Oakland Airport to downtown Berkeley is approximately $45.00. Cab fare from the San Francisco Airport to downtown Berkeley is approximately $75.00. Most major car rental agencies are located at both airports.

Ride-sharing apps such as Uber and Lyft generally work well in the Bay Area and are usually cheaper than taxi companies.

Parking

The nearest available visitor parking is available at Lower Hearst Garage, Level 2, though this lot can often be full depending on the day and time.  There is some 2-hour street parking available, but this can often be full as well.  The most reliable option is to park off-campus in downtown Berkeley and walk 15-20 minutes through campus to get to Etcheverry.
