Computer Accounts

Accounts are available on a per-semester basis. To create or renew an account, you must have the following:

  • Be an active UC Berkeley student with a valid Calnet ID.
  • $20 non-refundable payment using your CARS account.
  • enrollment in an IEOR class for that semester

You will be required to abide by the following policies and guidelines:

Your UNIX account will be valid on any of the following machines:

  • cardinal.ieor.berkeley.edu
  • shephard.ieor.berkeley.edu
  • zeus.ieor.berkeley.edu
All email should be directed to "your account name"@ieor.berkeley.edu. Due to the way the machines are configured, you will be able to access your mail no matter which machine you log into.

It is also possible for any student within the Department to have an account on newton, a UNIX machine managed by DECF (Davis-Etcheverry Computing Facility). Accounts on DECF are available in various categories: free/semester charge, quotas/unlimited file size and number, etc.). More information and forms to request an account are available from Room 1111 Etcheverry Hall.
